Barry and Janet Whitmore have turned their plain front yard in Bundaberg into a beautiful Japanese inspired entertaining area – with a Compass fibreglass composite pool as the stunning centrepiece.
When Barry and Janet Whitmore and their daughter Talitha moved from Sydney to Bundaberg they decided a pool was essential to enjoy the warmer climate.
Why we wanted a pool in Bundaberg
“We’d always had pools in Sydney,” says Barry. “The last one was a fibreglass pool we had installed at our home in Lane Cove. It turned into a seven-month event so I was really on my guard this time around. When I called local pool builders here in Bundaberg I found it really difficult to get quotes and answers to my questions. Then along came Jeff Geering from Composite Pool Solutions who gave me all the right answers and was the only person I could get any commonsense out of.”
The idea was to transform the Whitmore’s’ plain grassed front yard into a full-blown entertaining area with an Oriental/Japanese flavour and style.
“We had a limited budget,” says Barry, “so we didn’t want any you-beaut systems, just a small plunge pool to cool off.”
Deciding for a plunge pool
Barry and Janet decided on a five-metre Compass Plunge pool with a Haywood pump, chlorinator and filter and one Davey light.
The Whitmore’s were particularly taken by the beautiful finish and choice of colours offered by Compass Pools. While most fibreglass composite pools come in plain colour finishes, Compass has revolutionised the look of fibreglass composite pools by inserting large reflective chips into the resin and using two colour layers, not just one, to create a brilliantly luminous, three-dimensional lustre. The large reflective chips create a more dynamic-looking pool, while the effect is further enhanced by sunlight and water.
Compass Pools’ patented ceramic core technology also ensures a tougher, more durable pool and each pool comes with a lifetime structural warranty and a 10-year comprehensive cosmetic warranty.
“The installation went really smoothly,” says Barry, “a day and a half and it was in. It’s also been easy to maintain. Our last pool in Sydney had been next to gum trees and a jacaranda tree so we made sure this one was placed where it wouldn’t get leaves falling in.”
Result? A great-looking plunge pool in Bundaberg
“The pool looks great,” says Jeff Geering. “Barry is very handy and built a beautiful high timber Japanese style fence around the front yard for privacy with a paved area with a pizza oven for entertaining and glass fencing around the pool.”
“Now I spend a couple of hours enjoying the pool every day – swimming, dangling my legs and having an evening drink,” says Barry.
