The smart pool water circulation system

Pool circulation – why it matters

The process of circulation refers to the way pool water flows through the pool system equipment and around the entirety of the pool. Pool circulation begins with the water being sucked through the skimmer, pump, filter and heater, and it ends with the filtered water going back into the pool through eyeball return fittings.

Why is swimming pool circulation important?

Pool water circulation is essential to the health of your pool. Without proper and efficient pool circulation, the water can get stagnant, cloudy and dirty. This can turn the pool into a breeding ground for pathogens, so swimmers can get sick.

Improper or poor circulation can lead to the build-up of debris in your pool, which is not only harmful to the pool but can also clog the filter and cause more problems.

Taking care of your pool involves three key elements: circulation, chemistry and filtration. Taking one item out of the equation can lead to poor water quality and health

You need to ensure that the pump is sized correctly and running an average of at least 8 hours a day. The weir skimmer door needs to be in the right place, with the complete returns pointed downward at a 45-degree angle. You also need to periodically brush dead spots and encourage pool use to move water around.

What affects pool circulation?

There are a number of factors that can affect the quality of swimming pool circulation. These include:

  • How long the pump runs
  • How much water the pump is sized to move
  • Frequency of pool use
  • Pool shape (different pool shapes won’t have the same circular water movement around the pool)
  • Placement and angle of returns
  • Presence of the weir or skimmer door
  • Presence of dead spots

You can achieve proper turnover by running your pump 10 to 12 hours per day. But to prevent the growth of algae (which, by the way, is not an issue with Compass fibreglass pools), you’ll need to run that pump for 24 hours. This, in turn, can result in high energy costs.

Standard Pool Without Logic

A standard pool removes water from the pool using a surface skimmer and returns water to the surface of the pool only.

Compass Pool With Logic

A Compass Logic pool removes water from your pool using a skimmer as well as two wall drains, and returns water via swing jets to all areas of your pool.

If you like the way Compass Logic operates, you might want to check out our advanced option/secret weapon which enables us to build self-cleaning pools. That’s right, the pool will clean itself with the Vantage in-floor cleaning and circulation system. It circulates the water efficiently (similarly to Logic) but on top of it, the pool will be crystal clear without you spending time and money cleaning it.

Compass Logic – the key to a healthy pool

Compass Logic eliminates all pool circulation problems and significantly reduces the amount of energy required to keep your pool healthy and clean. Think of it as an upgrade to the traditional system you’re using. With Compass Logic, you not only save on energy costs but, more importantly, you have the assurance that you’ll be swimming in healthier water.

The difference is Logic

Traditionally, swimming pools are built using the same system to facilitate water circulation — the one we described above, with a pump, skimmer, filter and heater. This kind of system accomplishes the job of moving water around the pool — but only in the top 30 centimetres of water!

Considering how large and deep a pool can be, that’s too little water being pumped, skimmed and filtered. The conventional system leaves the rest of the water deep in the pool under-circulated which, in turn, can make it vulnerable to algal growth.

The system of Logic

Compass Pools Logic is a superior system designed to ensure your pool water is clean, clear and healthy, and to keep your energy bills low*.

Exclusive to the Compass Pools dealer network, Logic is a one-of-a-kind system that promises maximum results at a substantially lower energy cost. So, it’s not only a smart system but also an eco-friendly alternative.

The Logic system utilises two wall drains and three swing jet returns that magnify the pool circulation power, so you can use an energy-efficient pump without feeling a reduction in the output quality. In fact, the only change you’ll see is better pool water circulation and lower energy consumption costs at the end of each billing cycle.

* The estimated cost savings are calculated based on a Compass Logic pool with an energy C330 pump compared to a regular pool featuring an equivalent 1.5Hp pump. A minimum of 6 hours of the running time is needed for the proper operation of a salt chlorinator.

Logical benefits

What’s so great about Logic (aside from what we’ve mentioned above) is that you can run the pump at lower speeds while maintaining efficient swimming pool circulation.

With Compass Logic, the health of your pool water is maintained at an optimum level, so every swim is guaranteed to be a relaxing, fun and pleasurable one.

Instead of removing pool water with only a surface skimmer, Compass Logic does the job by using a skimmer plus two drains placed at the bottom of the wall in the deep end of the pool. These two drains enhance pool water circulation in the deepest section of the pool to discourage the growth of pesky algae. So, you can say bye-bye to pool circulation problems forever.
